If you have the Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X, as seen here, if you want to upgrade from the 8700K, it does support several faster i7 and i9 processors. So, do you have the MSI "PLUS" or the Gigabyte "X"? But when I search for "MSI Z390 Gaming X", I keep coming up with " Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X" or "MSI Z390 Gaming Plus". According to your System Specs, you have a "MSI" Z390 Gaming X. I am having a hard time finding information on your motherboard. Even the slowest SSD will run circles around that, or any hard drive. I would also plan on replacing that WD hard drive you are using as a secondary drive with an SSD. ![]() I see no reason to buy new, old technology. Except in the event of a urgent "repair" to get a downed computer back on-line now, if not sooner, if I were doing a new build today, or such a major upgrade as you are planning, I definitely would go with DDR5. ![]()
